THE GREAT WALL OF ART

This design is popping up everywhere lately, and although it goes against how I've always been "told" how to hang art and photographs, I've become a little obsessed with wallpapering a wall with art. As you will see from the collection below, creating a great wall of art is not an exact science. It can be clean and simple using just white frames, or a mishmash of art and found objects. But each wall works as long as there is an underlining theme. Even Anna Wintour's Vogue office has a wall of art, as does the office of Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. So chic!

Can be hip and chic with a retro feel...

...or have a modern flair with a lime wall and some bright colored frames...

...or sport a globetrotter feel with prints from Paris to Pompeii...

Even baby can get in on the fun! Children's illustrations or homemade arts and crafts make for easy and chic wall art for kids!

Try a soft and subtle zigzag wallpaper to add to a diverse mix of art. Even add unframed finds like a woodblock letter (love the "W").

Are you neat and orderly? Keep your wall art contained by lining up the frame edges in one large rectangle, shown in the room below.

A powder room is a great place to show off an eclectic style for all your guests to see! Add a darker paint color to make art on a cream or white background POP!

QUATREFOIL ME ONCE!

Quatrefoil, noun, a 4-lobed foliation in architecture.

This 4 sided, leaf-like shape is centuries old. The first known use of the word is dated back to the 15th century. And although the quatrefoil had its hay day during the Gothic Revival and Renaissance era, its classic style is still showing up today in chic and modern designs!

The Penny Loafer! A classic, all-American shoe that has style staying power! And guess what? They are on-trend again!

My mother introduced me to the penny loafer at a young age and I have always loved the way they made an outfit look chic without trying. My mom looked so chic (and still does!) wearing a crisp, white, button down shirt, dark jeans and a pair of penny loafers. I adopted the effortless look in my early high school years (before my experiment with Doc Martens- which lasted all of a few months!) and I continue to adore the chic style of a loafer. Which is why I was happy to see the look pop up again in department stores like Nordstrom- where I used to find the perfect pair! But not since the early 2000s have I seen so many styles available! So I welcome you loafer virgins to give this classic a try and see why no matter what the "trend" is, they will always be in style!

The 68th Annual Golden Globes hit Hollywood last night and stars of film and television were dressed to the nines! So many amazing dresses graced the red carpet in the evening's hottest shades: green, pink, black. Plus tons of sparkle!

January Jones of Mad Men loves to take chances on the red carpet and did in this red fringe Versace dress.

Bold hues like this mustard Emilio Pucci dress on Kyra Sedgwick (nominated for her role in The Closer) added amazing pops of color down the carpet.

Princess Moment:

TRES CHIC's other Best Dressed of the night goes to Olivia Wilde for this stunning Marchesa gown. So pretty and so unexpected from Wilde (of House) who usually wears body-hugging gowns on the red carpet. But what a pleasant surprise!

Plus Wilde's funky, gold studded Christian Louboutin booties were awesome!

The Boy's Club:

Now we can't forget the guys! Ryan Gosling (nominated for his role in Blue Valentine) looked handsome in a velvet Ferragamo suit jacket and velvet bow tie by Hugo Boss.

Jake Gyllenhaal suited up in a classic Burberry tuxedo (nominated for his role in Love and Other Drugs).

Black Swan:

Stars also played it safe but chic in black, like Jayma Mays of Glee in a Alberta Ferretti gown.

Julia Stiles (nominated for her guest role on Dexter) went glam in black.

Eva Longoria in a stunning black gown from Zac Posen.
